Wayne County 911 dispatcher helps deliver baby girl

LYONS, N.Y. (WHAM) - A Wayne County 911 dispatcher is being praised for helping a woman deliver her baby in Wayne County Wednesday morning.

According to the Wayne County 911 Emergency Communications Department, Wayne County 911 Dispatcher Sarah Wood received a call at 4:26 a.m. Wednesday from a woman who said she was in labor.

Wood assisted the caller by giving her instructions over the phone on how to deliver the child. The baby girl was born four minutes later, at 4:30 a.m.

The mother and child were taken to the hospital after the birth.

The Wayne County 911 Emergency Communications Department released the following statement on Woods' actions: “The efforts of Dispatcher Sarah Wood are a fine example of the excellent service provided every day by all of the team members in the 911 Center in Wayne County. I am proud of Sarah and the entire dispatch team that we have” said Greg DeWolf, 911 Operations Manager. “We wish the family and newborn baby all the best.”
