Westminster-bound dogs visit before the big show
A pair of chow-chows bred in Bridgeport, are in New York City, waiting to compete in the Westminster Dog Show on Monday.
This morning the two spent some time with us on Weekend Today in Central NY.
'Jack' ( formal name: Cincere's We Hit the Jackpot with Padow) and Penny (Cincere's Padow Penelope Pitstop) are half-brother and sister, different fathers but the same mother.
Both are already champion dogs, which is how they qualified for Westminster (Jack is actually a Grand Champion, which means he's accumulated more show points). They will be showing against each other in the first found of the show, against 11 other Chow Chows in the Best of Breed competition.
Amy Young will be showing Jack, and another professional will be flying in from Las Vegas to show Penny. Hope are high for both (we introduced you to Jack last fall: He was the best Chow at the National Dog Show, televised on Thanksgiving. Jack is now a year and a half old, Penny turns one later this month.
The two continue a legacy of Chow Champions with area ties: Last year this time, we introduced you to Morgan, who was Best of Opposite Sex at Westminster, and finished the year as the #1 female Chow in the USA.
She is now retired from showing, because last week she gave birth to 3 puppies, two girls and a boy, and is a full-time mom.
