Two adults and two children are homeless after an early morning housefire on Lowell Road (off Rte 26) in Westmoreland.

The fire took an hour and a half to bring under control, despite firefighters from Westmoreland, Stanwix Heights, Vernon, Verona and Vernon Center. Westmoreland Fire Chief Jeff Grube tells us that the extra help was called in, in part because they had so much trouble getting water to the fire scene: ponds in the area are frozen so tanker trucks had to return to the Westmoreland Fire Department to refill.

Firefighters at the scene got hot coffee and snacks, thanks to Auxiliary members at the scene.

Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
