The Coast Guard says local agencies and the Customs and Border Protection recovered approximately 35 kilos, or just over 77 pounds, of cocaine from the Gulf of Mexico south of Pensacola on Sunday.

According to the Coast Guard, Mobile watchstanders received a notification at approximately 6 p.m. on Saturday from a good Samaritan about a bale of cocaine floating in the water south of Pensacola.

Watchstanders launched a crew to search for the drugs throughout the evening. The bale of cocaine was found Sunday morning.

Several agencies were involved in the search, including Coast Guard Station Pensacola 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew, Coast Guard Sector Mobile Enforcement Division, Homeland Security Investigations, Customs and Border Protection’s Air and Marine Operations, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Marine Patrol, Orange Beach Police Department, Mobile Border and Enforcement Security Task Force/Homeland Security Investigations/High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, and Regional Coordinating Mechanism.
