Teen accused of raping 6-year-old on school bus faces charges
BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) — The number of charges has doubled against a 15-year-old accused of raping a six-year-old girl on a school bus last week.
The Benjamin Logan high schooler now faces two counts each of gross sexual imposition and rape. He was being held on just one count each of those charges, but further investigation found at least two other instances of the teen abusing the little girl. He is being held at a juvenile detention center pending a risk assessment and a detention hearing.
WSYX/WTTE is not revealing the name of the teen accused due to his age and the fact he is being charged as a juvenile.
Benjamin Logan school officials said the little girl told her parents about the incident last week, saying it happened on a school bus. The complaint filed by the Logan County Prosecutor alleges digital penetration. After continuing to investigate, the girl told authorities the same thing happened on the school bus at an earlier time this school year, but the child could not pinpoint a date.
Prosecutors said there is security video from the school bus and that investigators are reviewing it, but it's not clear if the offense can be seen on video. Prosecutors further said it is not mandatory that the teen be bound over to common pleas court to be tried as an adult. The Logan County sheriff continues to investigate to see if there are other victims.
A knock at the teen's door was not answered today.
