Toyota High School Athlete of the Week- Charlotte Ryan serves her team, and her country
It's one thing for a high school team in any sport to have senior leadership.
When one of those senior leaders is heading to a service academy after graduation? It brings the word leader to a whole new level.
Charlotte Ryan from LaFayette is accepted into the United States Naval Academy, pending Congressional approval, she will be in the Navy.
It's there she will play lacrosse and more importantly, serve her country.
"I always wanted to serve my country in some way and I wasn't always sure how I wanted to do that but then the Naval Academy's Women's lacrosse coach approached me, and I went down there for a visit I just fell in love" says Charlotte.
"It became my dream to me ever since."
Charlotte certainly has business to take care of on the field for the Lancers before living that lifelong dream.
She wants to make this a special season, she tells me after two straight losses in the first round of Sectional Playoffs, she hopes to help LaFayette go further.
By her side? Her best friend Mya DeJoseph. The duo says they've been friends since they were five years old and would love to leave a lasting impact on the field at LaFayette.
What they might not realize? They already have.
Between Ryan's commitment to serving her country and DeJoseph going to the Ivy League and playing for Cornell lacrosse next year, this dynamic duo serves as the true example of "student-athletes"
"She's just super determined in anything she does" Mya says of her friend Charlotte.
Charlotte speaks the world of her friend, too.
"She's the best friend ever, always there for me and I think it's been really cool. We just got to see each other as we've grown up together and see each other progress and hopefully will be there for each other in the future as well."
Something tells me, she absolutely will.
