Toyota High School Athlete of the Week- LaFayette's Dylan Lyons
There's a rich basketball tradition at LaFayette High School, led by Head Coach Jerry Kelly, the Lancers are a tough matchup regardless of the season or roster.
This year, they look the part of a Section III contender at 6-1 so far this season with a perfect 4-0 league record.
Outside, senior stars Reid Jackowski and Isaac Dow make opposing defenses sweat but it's the threat inside that keeps them awake at night.
Dylan Lyons is a force at the center spot, a menacing presence on defense and fully capable on offense.
Heading into Friday night's showdown with Weedsport, Lyons is second on the team in scoring over 15 points per game and can even step outside and hit a three.
"He just wants to win" Dow says of his teammate.
Just as impressively as his offensive prowess, Lyons averages a staggering 11 rebounds per game. Consider that double-double average combined with the other senior leaders on this team and it certainly makes the Lancers a team to watch the rest of the way.
All the while, besides the stats, Lyons leads in a quiet but stern manner. His teammates admit he'll get on them if they're not pulling their weight, but only if it's necessary.
Indeed, it sounds like the Lancers have their own version of the "Big Three" that could carry them deep into the postseason.
Congratulations to Isaac Dow, this week's Toyota High School Athlete of the Week.
