Liverpool Basketball is hoping for a repeat of its Section III Championship, in order to get there the Warriors will need its senior leaders like Charles Pride and Nas Johnson to lead the way.

It's a vision coming full-circle, the Warriors blossoming into a full-fledged New York State power in just three seasons under Ryan Blackwell. Stars like Pride and Johnson helping to facilitate that.

Early on this season Nas is stuffing the stat sheet, averaging 18 points and more than 8 rebounds per game. That's certainly a huge help but Blackwell believes his leadership goes well beyond the box score.

"He has ambition, he works hard, he's gotten better in school. Comes from a great family, great structure at home so overall just a great kid to have around" Ryan said.

For Johnson, it's been four years on varsity, he's seen the plan of what Liverpool Basketball should be come to fruition.

Now, in his last year on the Warrior campus, he wants to put his final stamp on the program.

"It's special just to have that chance" Johnson told me.

He adds "Being that it's my senior year, it's a good way for me to end my high school career."

The Warriors will be favored most of the way in Section III through March, rest assured, they'll look to Johnson and his fellow seniors to help keep everyone with a level head and their eye on the prize.

Liverpool takes on Nottingham on Friday night.

Congratulations to Nas Johnson, this week's Toyota High School Athlete of the Week!
