Toyota High School Athlete of the Week- Nottingham's Mazi Jackson

Mazi Jackson calmly nails free throws to help Nottingham upset West Genesee (Niko Tamurian)

The future of Nottingham Basketball is bright, a glimpse of that was given to the Bulldogs faithful Tuesday night.

Nottingham knocked off a powerful West Genesee team 75-70 in Syracuse that night behind 34 points from Mazi Jackson.

Jackson, mind you, is still a sophomore.

That night wasn't an anomaly either, Jackson is averaging 18 points per game and has hit 20 or more points six times so far this season.

In a win over Rochester East in December he flirted with a triple-double, scoring 27 points with 10 rebounds and six assists.

Those glimpses are quickly turning into absolute exclamation points.

Jackson has uncanny vision, constantly finding open teammates with a flare for the dramatic.

It may not have been a buzzer-beater, but with the game on the line against West Genny Tuesday, Jackson calmly drilled free throws needed to put the game on ice.

So, whether you're a high school hoops fan or not, make sure you take one thing from this story:

Keep an eye on Mazi Jackson the next couple seasons, and beyond.
