Toyota High School Athlete: Phoenix sophomore forward Jack Allen

Jack Allen, only a sophomore, has turned into one of the top scorers in the area with 22 points per game this season for Phoenix.

As a high school sophomore, Jack Allen is already 6-foot-3.

And he has has yet to scratch the surface of his potential.

Allen, one of Central New York's top scorers so far this season, has led the Phoenix boys basketball team to a 5-5 overall record as the New Year approaches.

Doctors tell Allen he will grow to be 6-foot-8.

"A lot of times I play out there, it feels like practice," Allen admitted. "It all pays off when you practice. It's all [about] practice and repetition. The season's gone really good so far. A lot of hard work in the off season pays off. A lot of it goes to my teammates, too, for playing well.

"We've just got to keep playing hard on defense, playing as a team, and just overall working hard. It's hard to believe sometimes, but hard work pays off," he added.

Allen plans to play on the AAU basketball circuit this summer, which is often times the route many high school basketball players take in order to be noticed by college scouts.

So far, he's averaging 22 points per game, along with recording a pair of 30-point games.

Congratulations to Jack Allen, CNY Central's Toyota High School Athlete of the Week!
