Toyota High School Athlete- Zoe Shephard from Cazenovia

Zoe Shephard is headed to Princeton next year (Matt Hauswirth)

Zoe Shephard is the type of student-athlete all others should strive to emulate.

It all starts in the classroom, where Shephard has the grades to get into Princeton. Of course, she's pretty darn good at field hockey, playing for Cazenovia varsity since she was in 9th grade.

Add it all up and you have an Ivy League-bound star in Madison County.

Shephard's leadership is contagious and a clear reason why Caz is fighting for a Section Three Championship this fall.

Her coach, Lorraine Sheftic, can't help but smile when talking about Zoe's progression. Indeed, it's been a lot of fun for Laker fans to watch her play over the past four years.

The Lakers are set to host Holland Patent in the Section III Tournament on Sunday, which could be a major chapter in the career of Shephard.

Ever the team player, Zoe wants nothing more than to lead her team to a Section III title. "The rest is a bonus" Shephard says, referring to a line from Coach Sheftic about everything after the Section III Tournament.

Congratulations to Zoe Shephard, our Toyota High School Athlete of the Week.
