Jalen Carey debuts in style as Syracuse wins season opener over Eastern Washington

Syracuse freshman Jalen Carey made his debut in the Orange's season opener after battling an ankle sprain in the preseason

Syracuse Basketball is 1-0.

Just about everyone in Central New York expected that, but a closer look shows even more.

A dominant Orange victory.

Syracuse rolled past Eastern Washington 66-34 in front of 19,912 fans at the Carrier Dome on Election Night.

The defense was so dominant, it only allowed 10 first half points and for a while in the second half Oshae Brissett was tied with the entire Eagles squad with 18 points each.

Brissett somehow, looks better than he did last season, leading the Orange with 20 points and 8 rebounds.

Frank Howard missed the season opener, recovering from offseason surgery while his fellow point guard Jalen Carey made his Orange debut in impressive style.

Carey missed both exhibition games after suffering a sprained ankle at the Orange/White scrimmage on October 12, in the season opener he entered midway through the first half and scored 7 points while grabbing 6 rebounds.

Tyus Battle and Bourama Sidibe eached scored eight points while Marek Dolezaj and Elijah Hughes eached scored six.

The Orange continues the "satellite" portion of the 2K Sports Classic with a home date against Morehead State on Saturday night.

After that, it gets real, with a matchup against UConn at Madison Square Garden, followed by a game with either Oregon or Iowa the next night at MSG.
