The Orange hoops squad debuted new gear for Wednesday night's big win over Big East rival UConn.
CNY Central confirmed with the Syracuse University Athletics Department Wednesday afternoon that the men TMs basketball team would be wearing redesigned uniforms when they faced the Connecticut Huskies in the Carrier Dome that night. The uniforms, designed by Nike, are said to utilize less material and feel lighter, in addition to being more breathable.
Syracuse TMs new uniforms incorporate several Nike innovations that were originally introduced in Beijing. The Hyper Elite uniforms take advantage of Nike Aerographics - an engineered mesh providing zoned cooling that reduces up to half the yarn, making the uniforms more lightweight and breathable said Nike in a press release Wednesday.
The new jerseys feature silhouettes of familiar University landmarks on the back, including the Dome, Carnegie Library, and the Hall of Languages, one of the oldest buildings on the SU campus. The University's founding year of 1870 is also included in the design.
UConn will also unveiled newly designed jerseys of their own in the same game.
The AP #2 and coaches #3 ranked Orange defeated the Huskies 72-67 in a tight battle. The game was televised live on ESPN as part of the network's Rivalry Week coverage.

BEAVERTON, Ore. (February 10, 2010) - Tonight the Orange men's basketball team will introduce the Nike Hyper Elite uniform - the lightest elite fit college basketball uniform Nike has ever designed. Syracuse will be one of several teams in college hoops that will debut the Nike Hyper Elite uniforms this month, which celebrates the rich spirit, tradition and culture of the nation's top basketball programs.
Paying tribute to the rich history of Syracuse basketball, Nike designers worked with the university to create a distinctive look for the Orange. Inspired in part by the iconic Carrier Dome, the Syracuse jerseys feature a rendition of the venue where some of the programs most memorable games have taken place.
The Syracuse Hall of Languages, one of the oldest buildings on campus, as well as the Syracuse Carnegie Library is featured in the design of the new jerseys. The establishment date of the university, 1870, helps complete the design.

Nike made specific adjustments to the jersey, eliminating 13 inches of material, while the use of Dri-FIT woven fabric in the short reduced its weight to make it Nike's lightest ever.
Dri-FIT technical fabric is a moisture-wicking material that provides increased comfort and thermo regulation to help enable players to perform at their optimal level on the court. The Nike Hyper Elite uniform is also the fastest drying Nike short ever.
Completing the new elite fit for Syracuse is the Nike Pro Combat, an ergonomically designed base layer that provides basketball-specific protective padding without restricting mobility on the court.
