Jim Boeheim looks on for the first practice of his 42nd season leading the Orange (Niko Tamurian)

It may still be September, but cooler weather and halloween decorations everywhere mean one thing.

Basketball season is almost back in Central New York.

The Syracuse Orange held their first practice of the season on Friday, the first day the NCAA allows college teams to practice.

Syracuse will have a much different look in 2017-2018, the only players that return from action on a daily basis are Frank Howard and Tyus Battle.

There's two players that were on the team last year, but not able to play much because of a redshirt (Matt Moyer) or an injury (Paschal Chukwu).

The rest of the squad is newcomers, grad transfer Geno Thrope from South Florida is joined by freshmen Oshae Brissett, Marek Dolejai, Bourama Sidibe, and Howard Washington.

The first game of the regular season is Friday, November 10 against Cornell and the first exhibition is nine days earlier against Southern New Hampshire.
