Comeback bid falls short, Syracuse Crunch drop shootout to Hartford Wolfpack

The Syracuse Crunch celebrate the game-tying goal Friday night, but were unable to win the game in a shootout.

The Syracuse Crunch completed a miraculous comeback Friday night, only to see it slip away in a shootout.

The Hartford Wolfpack were able to leave the War Memorial with the victory, 4-3.

However, the Crunch do come away with a point in the shootout loss.

Trailing 3-1 with over a minute to go until the second intermission, Alexander Volkov scored to cut the deficit to a only a single goal.

In the third period, Mathieu Joseph got ahead of the defense and scored on a breakaway, tying the game at 3-3 with eight minutes to play until the end of regulation.

Neither team was able to win in regulation, which went to overtime.

However, nobody was able to score in the extra session, which meant the game would be decided by a shootout.

Hartford took the shootout, 2-1, earning the two points and the win.

The Crunch will next be in action Saturday night when the Laval Rocket visit the War Memorial for a 7 p.m. start.
