The Big Return: Le Moyne Women's Lacrosse returns home with NCAA Championship Trophy

Members of the Le Moyne women's lacrosse team hold the NCAA Championship trophy upon returning home to Syracuse on Monday.

The Le Moyne women's lacrosse team has returned home to Central New York after winning the program's first National Championship on Sunday.

The Dolphins took down Florida Southern in Tampa, Florida, 16-11.

Coaches and players exited the bus that arrived from Hancock International Airport, as players were greeted to family, fans and the local media.

"It's an awfully good thing for a women's team to finally make a statement here on the national stage," Le Moyne head coach Kathy Taylor explained. "We were knocking on the door and I had this feeling this year, that this group had enough of the pieces that they needed to get it done. So I'm really happy for Le Moyne College and actually the Syracuse community to have another National Champion in town."

"It hasn't hit me yet. It's just crazy to be able to say that I was on the team that we finally did it for Le Moyne College athletics department," Dolphins sophomore midfielder and former West Genesee high school standout Nicole Delany said. "It's just really exciting being able to be a part of that and celebrate it with all my teammates."

Le Moyne's 22 total wins on the year ties the NCAA Division-II record.
