Battle of the Unbeatens: Corcoran boys hold off West Genesee in overtime thriller
The best high school basketball game Tuesday night took place at Corcoran high school.
It was a battle between a pair of unbeatens: West Genesee (8-0) and Corcoran (10-0).
The Wildcats took the lead into the fourth quarter, but a late Cougars push made for an incredible final few seconds.
Tied at 54 apiece with 11 seconds on the clock, Corcoran had possession when it turned the ball over, giving West Genesee's Christian Rossi a chance for a half-court heave, but missed after hitting off the backboard and the rim.
In overtime, De'Jour Reaves took over for Corcoran, leading the way with 27 points in the home win.
"[It took] a lot of composure," Reaves said after the game. "[It took] a lot of defense. We had to make our foul shots, but we came through. Defense was the most important thing."
"My guys are excited for the challenge every night," Cougars head coach Jesse Long explained. "Everybody we play, we're undersized against. You've got to credit these guys -- we were pushing the ball all night tonight. Defense and rebounding is all heart, and I think that showed through the fourth quarter and overtime, their heart really showed."
