Fight to the finish- Rauch leads Ludden past rival Westhill in overtime

Danielle Rauch celebrates Bishop Ludden's overtime win over Westhill on Tuesday night (Niko Tamurian)

Westhill and Bishop Ludden are separated by literally a one minute drive. From the Westhill gym you can turn left on Grand Ave, hang a quick right on Fay Road and you're there.

Safe to say, these schools know each other rather well and Tuesday night's girls basketball game was just as close.

Bishop Ludden edged Westhill 60-54 in overtime after a furious comeback from Westhill.

Ludden led the game by double-digits in the third quarter before star Danielle Rauch picked up her 4th foul.

With Rauch out of the game, the Warriors erased the lead and forged a five point lead of its own even after Rauch re-entered the lineup.

The Gaelic Knights weathered the storm and tied the game up in the game's final minute. They even had a chance to win with .7 seconds left, but just missed.

In overtime, Rauch showed her brilliance with dazzling passes to teammates underneath the basket and a nice mid-range jumper to ice the game.

Rauch scored 8 points but dished out 15 assists and grabbed 8 rebounds. Aurora DeShaies was sensational with 19 key points on a night when Ludden needed every last one of them.

For Westhill, MacKenzie Martin led the way with 20 points.

With the win, Bishop Ludden is still perfect in league play and hands Westhill its first league loss of the season.
