Fights to the finish, milestones highlight Tuesday night of hoops in Central New York

Will Amica elevates for a ferocious slam dunk in the first half of the Wildcats close win over C-NS (Niko Tamurian)

From a Will Amica slam dunk for West Genesee to hitting 1,000 career points for Bishop Grimes star Abby Wilkinson, it was a special night for local high school basketball.

Starting with West Genesee, it was a tie game at halftime with the Wildcats and C-NS Northstars.

The second half was ALMOST that close.

West Genny forged a one-point win, 50-49 staying perfect on the season. Amica scored 18 points in the winning effort while Anthony Tricarico hit a whopping 14 free throws en route to a 25-point effort.

C-NS falls to 2-2, but showed all of Central New York tonight it can hang with and potentially beat anyone on their schedule.

Meanwhile, another fantastic finish was on tap in Baldwinsville.

Liverpool, the defending New York State Champion, led the Bees 37-22 at halftime.

Kyle Butler-Gaffney was unstoppable the entire game scoring 29 points but Baldwinsville dug deep for a wild comeback to win 69-66.

Freshman J.J. Starling scored 23 points in the come-from-behind victory.

In Girls Basketball, it was a special night for Abby Wilkinson, a star for the Bishop Grimes Cobras since she was in 8th grade.

By way of nearly a 24-point per game average through four games, Wilkinson eclipsed the 1,000 career points milestone.

Wilkinson, our Toyota High School Athlete of the Week in November, finished with 17 points in a win over A-P-W.
