History made- Syracuse Academy of Science wins first girls sectional title

Syracuse Academy of Science celebrates its first ever Section III Girls Basketball Championship (Niko Tamurian)

They say there's a first time for everything.

For Syracuse Academy of Science Girls Basketball, that phrase takes on new meaning.

Three years in a row the Atoms made the championship game and on Thursday they finally broke through.

Outscoring Little Falls 23-10 in the final quarter, the Atoms won Section III for the first time with a 63-42 victory over the Mounties.

The Atoms were paced by incredible star Lyrik Jackson's 25 points and 10 rebounds. Freey Pleasants scored 9 points and snagged 10 rebounds while Alexius Pierce scored 12.

Jackson, a senior this season, leaves her legacy on Atoms Basketball with a Section III Championship.

Now, she hopes to lead the Atoms to a spot neither basketball team on campus has seen: A New York State Championship.
