Jamesville-DeWitt girls pass early test, knock off West Genesee 59-57

The Jamesville-DeWitt girls basketball team edged out West Genesee in a battle between two of Central New York's top programs.

Coming off a Class A New York State Championship one year ago, the Jamesville-DeWitt girls basketball team was put to the test roughly one week into the brand new season.

The Red Rams hosted West Genesee Wednesday night, perhaps the top team in the Class AA ranks across Section III.

The Wildcats jumped out in front early on, but the Red Rams took the two-point lead after the opening quarter thanks to a buzzer-beating turnaround jumper from senior Meg Hair.

J-D took the 33-28 lead at the half.

The seesaw battle continued in the second half, but in the end, behind Hair's team-high 19 points, the Red Rams closed it out, 59-57.

Mackenzie Smith recorded a game-high 20 points for West Genesee, while Jamie Boeheim chipped in with 14 points for Jamesville-DeWitt.
