Skaneateles edges out Chenango Forks on last-second touchdown, advances to state semis
The Skaneateles Lakers are heading to the New York State, Class B Final Four in dramatic fashion.
Trailing by 12 points going into the fourth quarter, the Lakers mounted a furious rally due in large part to Patrick Hackler.
With only seconds remaining and the Lakers only a yard away from the end zone, the senior quarterback called his own number and crossed the goal line.
From there, the shout of celebration from the Skaneateles sideline erupted, signaling a 27-26 win over New York State's No. 1-ranked team, Chenango Forks.
"I'm just thankful for this offensive line," Hackler announced. "It was an amazing play. They dug in. They had heart and they had muscle. We out-muscled them on that last play and we got the win. I'm happy just to be playing another week."
Skaneateles advances to meet Section V champion, Batavia, in the New York State Semifinals next weekend from Union-Endicott high school.
