Toyota Athlete of the Week: Fabius-Pompey's Lexi Durocher guides Falcons to new heights

Fabius-Pompey freshman Lexi Durocher leads the Falcons in batting average and hits, guiding the program to a New York State Final Four berth.

This week's Toyota High School Athlete of the Week may be short in stature, but she carries a big bat.

Lexi Durocher, a freshman utility player, leads the Fabius-Pompey softball team in both batting average and hits, as the Falcons continue to prepare for the Class D New York State Final Four this weekend from Fort Edward, New York.

The Falcons will meet Fort Ann at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday from Moreau Recreational Park.

"All the coaches here and everything do a great job helping me and just practice outside of school -- I practice a lot so it's nice," she proclaimed.

The Falcons bring their 14-3 overall record into Saturday's showdown, hoping to make the entire Fabius-Pompey community proud.

"That would be amazing," she answered when asked about the magnitude of a potential state championship. "Especially to come as far as we can. It's been as far as we've ever gotten before. So if we win it'll just be awesome."

This year's New York State Final Four berth is the furthest any Fabius-Pompey softball team has advanced in program history.
