Toyota Athlete of the Week: Oneida softball flamethrower Kyra Shlotzhauer
The Oneida varsity softball team is once again enjoying yet another banner season.
The Indians are led by a junior who's dropping the competition -- one strikeout at a time.
Kyra Shlotzhauer, a junior pitcher and first baseman, has established herself as one of the stars of the team, recording 79 total strikeouts through 17 regular season games.
Oneida is currently 15-2 overall, winning games in a variety of ways.
"We work really well as a team together," she said. "We all have our own parts and we're all playing our parts. When someone isn't succeeding and the other person is -- on the back of our helmets we have 'Medina' -- that's where if you're not succeeding, you feel their success. You support their success as if it's your own.
"This year, actually, we kind of make regular games feel like Sectional games. We're cheering as a Sectional game, we're playing as a Sectional game. We're just playing like we're here," she concluded with a laugh.
Shlotzhauer is verbally commmitted to play Division-II college softball at Le Moyne College.
