Camping World Bowl: Orange face first practice after some fun in Orlando

Head Coach Dino Babers is making sure his team is staying focused, and reiterated that focus at practice Wednesday (CNYCentral).

The Syracuse Orange football team is getting some time to enjoy sunny Florida before the team’s matchup against West Virginia in the Camping World Bowl on Friday.

The Orange arrived Monday, and have spent time sightseeing at Universal Studios, going on a shopping spree at Best Buy and giving back to the community. The team took a group of kids to the Andretti Indoor Track to drive go-karts.

“We’ve been blessed with the opportunity to come down here and have a great experience in Orlando, and just being able to take a little time out of our trip to give back to these kids – it’s great,” said Syracuse senior linebacker Kielan Whitner.

Head Coach Dino Babers is making sure his team is staying focused, and reiterated that focus at practice Wednesday.

“Today was the first time where you had an interaction where both teams were in the exact same place at the exact same time,” Babers said. “I think once you start seeing the opponent across the ring, it starts to really lock in your focus that play-time is over. There’s going to be a game at the end of this thing.”

Babers believes this team can be even better than what we've seen so far. He says he knows the momentum building towards 2019 can continue in earnest with a Camping World Bowl win.

This is the first bowl game appearance for the Orange since 2013, and with a win on Friday, it would be the team’s first 10-win season in 17 years.

CNYCentral's Niko Tamurian and Matt Hauswirth are in Orlando for complete Camping World Bowl Coverage. Be sure to check out our "Orange Zone" special, "The Orange in Orlando: Back in a Bowl," brought to you by SRC, Thursday night at 7 p.m. on NBC3.
