Syracuse solidifies NCAA Tournament hopes with Senior Day win over Colgate

The Syracuse men's lacrosse team was able to take care of business on Saturday, defeating Colgate on Senior Day from the Carrier Dome.

The Syracuse men's lacrosse team pulled out a win over the Colgate Raiders in its regular season finale, 17-5.

Brendan Bomberry led the way for the Orange with five points on the day, including four goals.

Sophomore midfielder Jamie Trimboli netted a hat trick, while Nate Solomon recorded four points on the afternoon.

The Orange took a 7-1 lead into the halftime break, continuing to keep their foot on the gas pedal en route to the big win.

"We went according to game plan," Syracuse coach John Desko explained. "I thought we had a good first half. We kept our turnovers down today. We were better on man-up than we have been the last couple of games. All in all, the way it turned out with everybody, a lot of guys getting a chance to play in the Carrier Dome today, so I think everybody leaves with a smile on their face.

"Mission accomplished," he concluded.

For the players, the Orange said goodbye to 10 seniors on the field.

"It was nice to get the win on Senior Day, but like I said before, we treated it like a playoff game. If we lose, we're not making the tournament for sure," Orange senior goaltender Dom Madonna said. "Now we kind of just wait, but it was awesome to get a win on Senior Day. I know a lot of the guys are happy about it, especially getting some momentum going heading into the playoffs."

"We just kind of treat it as any other game, and just came out with the intensity," Syracuse senior midfielder Brendan Bomberry added. "Like Dom [Madonna] said, we treated this game as a playoff game all week. I think that helped our preparation and helped our hot start for sure."

The Orange now await their seeding when the NCAA Tournament Selection Show airs Sunday at 9 p.m. on ESPNU.
