Melanie Johnson joined the CNY Central news team in April 2019.

A proud Chicago native, Melanie has always had a passion for giving the voiceless a voice. Her love for journalism followed her to the illustrious Howard University in Washington D.C. where she graduated as an Annenberg Honors Scholar and a Magna Cum Laude graduate. Go Bison!!!!

Melanie is no stranger to Upstate New York. She comes to NBC 3, CBS 5, and CW 6 from Spectrum News in Rochester where she was known for her community-oriented stories. During her time there she was influential in the ongoing coverage on Treyvan Rowe and the Frederick Douglass Bicentennial Celebration. In 2017, she was selected to travel to our nation’s capital to report on the memorial and legacy of longtime Congresswoman Louise Slaughter.

Melanie loves to travel. She has had the opportunity to visit China, Italy, Spain, France and Morocco. She likes to read, watch Kobe highlights and she is fascinated with crime shows. Melanie is a proud member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
