Frost advisories & freeze warnings Wednesday night into Thursday morning

A frost ADVISORY is in effect for Onondaga, Oswego, Madison, Cortland, Cayuga, Seneca, Tompkins, Chenango, Wayne, Ontario, Yates, Schuyler, Otsego, Jefferson, southern Oneida, and southern Herkimer counties from 12am Thursday until 8am Thursday.

A frost ADVISORY means that cold temperatures will reach the dew (frost) point and cause frost across parts or all of the counties listed above. Sensitive outdoor plants may be damaged or killed if left uncovered.

A freeze WARNING is in effect for Lewis, Steuben, and northern Oneida counties from 12am Thursday until 8am Thursday.

A freeze WARNING means that temperatures below 32° are highly likely for the warned area. These conditions will kill unprotected crops and other sensitive vegetation.

In this particular case, the highest risk for frost will be across the coldest countryside of CNY. The coldest temperatures will likely be found in Herkimer, Lewis, northern Oneida, eastern Oswego, eastern Jefferson counties and across the coldest sheltered valleys of southern Oneida, Madison, Cortland, Chenango and southern Onondaga counties. The lowest risk for frost will be right near the lakeshores of Lake Ontario, Oneida Lake and the Finger Lakes. Downtown Syracuse will also be right in the cusp of frost or no frost.
